Có rất nhiều sự đa dạng về văn minh, văn hóa và tôn giáo trong các xã hội đang tồn tại. Trong môi trường này, tinh thần khoan dung tôn giáo và chấp nhận đa tôn giáo là rất quan trọng.
Mặt khác, trong xã hội hiện tại đã thiết lập một ý tưởng cho rằng chính tôn giáo có liên quan trong các cuộc xung đột giữa các cộng đồng quốc tế lẫn nhau. Đây là một sự chỉ trích mạnh mẽ và sai lầm bởi vì không phải tạo những mâu thuẫn hay tệ nạn xã hội mà thật ra mục đích chính của tôn giáo là vì xây dựng nền hòa bình, hòa hợp, từ bi, phát triển đạo đức và cuối cùng là vì sự phát triển tâm linh của tất cả chúng sinh.

Đây chính là giá trị của sự tồn tại tôn giáo trong xã hội loài người. Nhưng, ngày nay tôn giáo đã có đóng vai trò thích hợp chưa? Đó là vấn đề cần thảo luận ở đây. Có nhiều truyền thống và lịch sử tôn giáo trong thế giới hiện đại, nhưng, cũng có nhiều tôn giáo trong số đó chưa thực hiện được các chức năng của mình đối với xã hội, đặc biệt là các tôn giáo nhất thần.
Với sự hiện đại hóa, các tôn giáo đã bị mất đi vị trí thiêng liêng của mình trong xã hội nhưng chúng không bị chối bỏ hoàn toàn. Thực sự xã hội hiện đại cần một tôn giáo thực tế, cụ thể là những lời dạy đạo đức tâm linh cũng như sự khuyên dạy nhẹ nhàng của tôn giáo là những nhu cầu rất cơ bản cho xã hội.
Về điều này, tôn giáo có thể thực hiện phần đóng góp của mình, nếu thành công, xã hội sẽ trở nên tốt đẹp và đạo đức hơn thế này. Thật vậy, ngày nay tôn giáo cũng đang chạy đua như các yếu tố xã hội khác. Trong bối cảnh như vậy, Phật giáo nên nhậm vận phát triển thành một tôn giáo toàn cầu và đầy thiện chí trên toàn thế giới. Bởi vì Kitô giáo và Hồi giáo là những tôn giáo lớn nhất trên thế giới nhưng là những tôn giáo hữu thần, khó có thể đáp ứng đầy đủ các yêu cầu về tinh thần và đạo đức của xã hội.
Đặc thù của Phật giáo là không chỉ giới hạn trong các xã hội Phật giáo như nhiều tôn giáo khác mà Phật giáo là dành cho cả thế giới, bởi vì Đức Phật chưa bao giờ nói rằng giáo lý của Ngài là một sự mặc khải về Ngài. Đức Phật dạy rằng ngài đã giác ngộ hoặc chứng nghiệm một cách đúng đắn về nhân sinh quan và vũ trụ quan. Ngài đã tuệ tri một cách đúng đắn làm thế nào để thoát vòng luân hồi qua sự tu tập tinh thần. Mỗi tôn giáo trong thế giới hiện đại đang cố gắng tăng số lượng tín đồ nhưng lại ít quan tâm việc phát triển các chức năng tôn giáo.
Thông qua bài viết này, đặc biệt tập trung làm thế nào những lời dạy của Đức Phật có thể áp dụng trong thế giới hiện đại như một tôn giáo hàng đầu cũng như một sự hiểu biết toàn cầu. Phật giáo là triết lý của thế giới và là một tôn giáo toàn cầu cho tất cả những ai có thể hiểu được nghĩa thực tế của nó. Do đó, Phật giáo có vai trò hàng đầu như là một giải pháp xung đột cho một xã hội bền vững.

The Role of Religion in Leadership for Conflict Resolution and Peace Building with Reference to Buddhist Teachings

According to the existence of religions in the society they have deferent social and cultural diversities. In this condition, religious tolerance and acceptance of religious pluralism is very important. On the other hand, in the present society have been established an idea that religion has been involved and reasonable for inter-communal and international conflicts. This is a strong criticism for religion because of purposely religion does not for social conflicts and issues but for peace, harmony, loving kindness, ethical development and finally for the spiritual development of beings. This is the utility of religious existence in human society. But, nowadays does religion play its appropriate functions? This is the problem here to discuss. There are many traditional and historical religions in modern world. But, many of those religions are failure to fulfill its functions for the society especially religions which included to the category of monotheism. With the modernization, religions of faith had been lost their sacred place of the society but it is completely not rejected, indeed modern society needs a practical religion, particularly the moral and spiritual teachings as well as religious consolations are very basic needs for the society. On this, could religion able to do its contribution, if it was successful the society should be ethical and moral than this. Indead, nowadays religion is also running a race like other social factors. In such a condition why Buddhism has become a naturally spreading or willingly embrace religion all over the world? Because Christianity and Islam are the largest religions in the world but those theistic religions could not fulfill the spiritual and moral requirements of the society. The specificity of Buddhism is, it does not limited to Buddhist societies like many other religions but for whole world because Buddha never says that His teaching is specifically a revelation of him, He taught that he understood or enlightened understanding in proper way of the universe and whole beings, and He saw the proper way how to win this circle of life in spiritual way. Each and every religion in modern world is trying to increase the number of followers but not for the religious functions. Through this article particularly focused how Buddhist teachings can applicable for the modern world as a leading religion as well as a universal understanding. Buddhism is the philosophy of world and a universal religion for whole beings who can understand the reality in mean. Therefore Buddhism has a leading role as a conflict solution for a sustainable society.
